Greet the Day with Gratitude – Be Thankful Door Decor
Tall “Be Thankful” Porch Sign and Door Hanging Tutorial
Thanksgiving is one of my favorite days of the year, and it needs to be celebrated with more than a delicious meal! Making the jump directly from Halloween to Christmas is an easy trap, but taking some time for gratitude before heading into the Christmas season will add layers of joy to a season that has become stressful for many. I need a reminder to be thankful, and this sign is perfect. It greets me and my guests with the thoughtful reminder to be thankful.
I used to skip decorating for Thanksgiving, pulling out my Christmas boxes as soon as Halloween was safely stowed away, but discovered that it made the holiday feel long and less magical. These days I take a week or two between Halloween and Thanksgiving to clean house, work on Christmas décor projects, and focus on gratitude. My family has come to expect a lot of simple meals like soups with hearty bread or platters of cut cheese, grapes, and crackers with jelly during the weeks leading to Thanksgiving. We take this time to visit with our grandparents and other relatives that need our attention, but that seem to be forgotten during the hustle and bustle of Christmas. We also make lists of activities that we want to do that are only available around Christmas so that we don’t miss out. This two week break has really helped me to take a deep breath before diving into Christmas in all its glorious excess, and has helped me enjoyed it more.
The sign and door decoration, with pine cone and feather accents, help me separate Thanksgiving from the pumpkins and corn stalks prominent in Halloween decorations. This reminds us that we are approaching an altogether new holiday. I happen to love the simplicity of the door decoration, which ties in nicely with the feathers on the Be Thankful sign and couldn’t be easier to make.
