Hand Crafted Home Decor Poised for A Comeback
There’s some hand crafted home decor that is poised for a comeback in 2018 because everything old is new again thanks to the surge in modern farmhouse decor. Modernizing these mostly-forgotten classics is the key to making them work seamlessly with modern farmhouse homes. We’ve been wearing out our paintbrushes making old furniture shabby chic. It’s time to learn a home art perfected by our grandmothers. These 4 handicrafts are poised to make a big comeback in 2018. Click To Tweet
Here’s the top 4 home art home decor poised to comeback big in 2018.
Cross-stitch: The farmhouse decorating trend won’t be complete without cross-stitch samplers. These beautiful womanly pieces of art were created by our grandmothers while they sang their babies to sleep. Cross-stitch is like adult coloring books with staying power. You get to create a personalized work of art for your home.
I can’t wait for this home-grown art form to make a comeback. Thanks to awesome shops like https://stitchedmodern.com there’s new, more modern patterns that work beautifully with the modern farmhouse trend. Check out a few of our favorites below.Toll Painting: This is another art form that seems poised for a comeback because it fits perfectly with modern farmhouse trends. Talented toll painters produce amazing home décor. The picture below is the custom nesting doll set my son recently brought home from Russia. It’s even more beautiful in person. I haven’t seen many toll painted items lately, but I’m hoping for a comeback. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty tired of the sloppy mass marketed stuff that they call home décor these days. I’m rooting for home artists to dive back into toll painting.
Dried Flower Arrangements: I understand why dried flower arrangements got a bad rap. I had roommates with huge vases of dried roses from every date that shed all over the apartment. Properly dried flower arrangements are lovely. The colors are preserved. The fragrances of dried herb arrangements enliven your kitchen. There’s some beautiful arrangements being sold on Etsy. There’s every reason to expect a comeback from dried flower arrangements. This time around let’s all agree to toss them when the colors fade and the flowers become papery.
Glass Grapes: Every home in the 1970’s had these glass grapes on their coffee tables, and they weren’t purchased at HomeGoods—these beauties were made by the enterprising homeowners. This time around I’d love to see them displayed on beautiful macramé shelves near windows so that we can see the glass sparkle.
I’m so excited to see these beautiful home crafts make a comeback. I know we’ll be seeing them in 2018.
