What is a Linkup Party?
Linkup (or Linky) parties are hosted by bloggers that allow you to share your projects with their readers. Sometimes they’re called blog hops. Some linkup parties have a single host, while others are hosted by several bloggers. When you participate in a linkup, you upload a link to the project or blog post you want to share, along with a small photo. When a party-goer visits the linkup, they can see your project along with all the other projects that bloggers have linked to the party. Most are weekly linkups, but there are also monthly linkups and special ones like DIY ornaments.
Why Participate in a Linkup?
There are so many reasons! First, you get to borrow a fellow blogger’s audience! It’s so fun to get your projects in front of viewers that may not know about you. Second, it’s a great way to network with other like-minded bloggers. You get to see what the host(s) have been working on, and you can interact with them, and other party-goers. Third, you get a lot of inspiration for your own projects by checking out what other bloggers have been working on.
Party Etiquette for a Linkup
It’s a party! You’re expected to mingle. This includes following the host(s) on their preferred social network. It also includes visiting your fellow party-goer’s blogs, commenting on them, and pinning your favorites to your Pinterest boards or social media channels.
Good hosts want to provide a great linkup. When hosts collaborate on a linkup, they will share the linky party with each of their respective audiences. So you can linkup and the party will be seen on multiple blogs, but you only have to link once. I love it when hosts pick features and when they feature the most clicked post for the week–and when they link the features back to the original post. Some of the best hosts visit your link and leave a comment to let you know that they are mingling too.
Some hosts offer much appreciated extras such as adding you to their blog hop, Facebook groups and Pinterest Group Boards.
Linkups are a great way to start promoting your blog and posts. If you’d like to give it a try, check out the list of linkups where I party. If you have any other great linkups you’d like me to know about, please leave them in the comments.
